Betty Photography

Hello again,
Thank you very much for all your comments and kind words.

Today I would like to explain where the name Betty Xidi comes from.

You ask about it very often and the story is quite funny. 🙂

Many years ago I realized that my dream was to work in Greece, and such an opportunity arose during the summer. I did not hesitate for long. I packed my suitcase and decided to leave for 2-3 months my country. I took a job in the Cyclades, on the island of Koufonisia. I helped with finishing private apartments for rent. The last works were underway, there was more and more cleaning, and a growing need, day by day was to buy vinegar, which the Greeks call “Xidi.” The owner, whose name I unfortunately do not remember, gave me a bike, and my task was to go to the store every morning and buy vinegar.

One morning I got up early and decided to go to the store a little earlier. The store opened at eight, and I was there 15 minutes early. However, the door was open, so I decided to go inside, because through the window I could also see that the owner’s wife was already bustling around at the counter.

I greeted the lady behind the counter in Greek: “Kalimera” to which she responded with a wide smile, answering me in the same way, this time not in English. 🙂

Suddenly, a loud voice rang out from the store’s warehouse: “Who’s pushing into the store so early, it’s not open yet, they won’t let us open the store in peace!” To which the owner’s wife replied in a sweet, calm voice: “Oh come on, that’s our Betty Xidi!”
And that’s how I found out that I have a nickname, which, when I told the whole story to my friends from Rhodes, also caught on here on the island of Rhodes! 🙂
And when I moved to the island of Rhodes for good and people started persuading me to set up a Facebook page, because they knew that I loved take photos, I decided that I would use my nickname from Koufonisia as a so-called artistic pseudonym!
That’s the story!

Maybe you also have some stories related to the Greek islands and their echoes still resonate today? Please write in the comments.
Thank you! 🙂
