After deciding to move to Rhodes, I packed my backpack and landed at the Diagoras airport in Paradisi in the evening on 31.10.2015. Mr. Kostas, from whom I had previously rented an apartment on Dilberaki Street, next to Psaropoula Beach, was waiting for me at the airport. This time, I decided to live in the same building, but in a studio apartment, to reduce the rental costs. It wasn’t easy, because when I had the window open and the children were playing football, the ball would fall into the boiling soup and I had to cook again. 🙁

I started to feel depressed, caused not only by such events but also by the fact that it was hard to find a job in the winter. Rhodes is an island where you earn money and work in the summer.

I tried not to sit at home, I signed up for a library in the Old Town of Rhodes, and I started going out with my simple Olimpus camera to take pictures in the morning and in the evening. And that’s how my real adventure with photography began on the island of Rhodes!

Now I call it phototherapy with a smile on my face, but when I look back, I have to admit that it was really hard for me, because in my country I worked all year, and here only for half a year.

In the same building, on Dilberaki Street, I lived in a third apartment after one season working. At the very top, with a view of the sea! And my beloved Psaropoula beach and Kato Petres! I thought that my dreams really came true!

You understand, after living in a studio, I wanted to live in an apartment with a view! 🙂

Mr. Kostas warned me that this apartment would not be suitable for me in the winter, because of the higher costs but also the cold I would feel there in the winter.

But I was stubborn, as I usually am, and moved to the very top.
And there, when the storm came, I could only hear music through the cracks in the windows, the water in the toilet was stagnant. Despite the fact that the Mr. Statis, Mr. Kostas’ brother, came to me every few days and fixed the shower, it was getting worse and worse, the water was leaking even more. I don’t even remember how many attempts were made to fix it! Lovely Mr. Statis!

Finally, I got sick and the illness dragged on for a while, so with a heavy heart and tears in the eyes I left that apartment, and Dilberaki Street.

However, I have to say that those were my beautiful years there, and thanks to living on Dilberaki Street I met many wonderful people who are my Friends to this day. And not only from Rhodes, but from other countries too!
And Mr. Kostas and I are still in touch and sometimes we talk about the news over coffee!
That’s why Psaropoula Beach, Kato Petres and Dilberaki Street in Rhodes will always be number 1 in my heart!

I will have many more stories to tell you from this street! 😉

  1. Ja też wybrałabym pokój z widokiem na ostatnim piętrze 🙂 mimo wszystko.

    1. Agatko, witaj. No tak, upierałam się i upierałam, mieszkanko jak cukierek, a wiało przez szczeliny w oknie, że ho ho. Wtedy zrozumiałam, że na Rodos też jednak można zmarznąć 😉
